             Paraphrased      

8 - The fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun {‘code’? The sun is thermonuclear, God’s ‘wrath’ is cause and effect, Ps.90:3,5-7} and it was allowed to scorch people with fire. {Where the numbers of the beast come up, suggests apocalypse is totally done by mankind, for we are carbon based. Carbon has six protons, six neutrons and six electrons.} 9 They were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues. {If creation had no option to stray, it would be an ant farm. And if you don’t let it run its course, what would be the point?} They did not repent {and relent?} and give him glory.

     10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom became more dark. People gnawed their tongues in frustration 11 and cursed the God of heaven for their pain and sores. They did not repent/relent of their deeds.

     12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east. 13 For I saw having come out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs. {Leave a terrible taste. From the dragon, a two pronged work, via the modern day many headed geopolitical beast/entity/institution, and an of-the world false prophet, whose “flood” of a “strong delusion” of “seating man in the temple as god”/highest power, has caused the west, once called Christendom to “fall away”. It has more modern wonders and “miracles to mislead” and of course prophesies.} [From the dragon — the big {world? for both it and last days Babylon sits on all seven continents/hills} beast (Rev.13:1, Dan.7:7,19) and a false prophesying one]{/entity/institution(s).} 14 For they are demonic spirits, performing portends, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty. (Ps.2; Rev.6:3,4) {The consummation of history, like other judgments, is called Day of the LORD. The ‘shape of prophecy is in increasing scopes to full scope. Both world and advents.} 15 (“Behold, I am coming {unexpected} like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, staying fully clothed, that they may not go about naked and be seen unclothed!”) 16 And they assembled at the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. {Logically, Mt.13:30, “gather first the tares” is this gathering to Armageddon battle — verses 14(15)16.}

Revelation 16:1-7

1 - Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling the seven angels, “Go and pour out upon the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.”

     [God’s ‘wrath’ — Ps.90:3,5-7 — “You return man to dust and say, ‘Return, oh children of Adam!’ 5 You sweep them away as with a flood. They are like a dream, like grass that is sprouts in the morning, 6 it flourishes and is renewed, and in the evening it fades and withers. 7 For we are brought to an end (entropy - effect from cause) by your anger (cause and effect). By your wrath we are dismayed.] — (Imo, cause and effect.. oR you have to have a mere ant farm. Yes, even in the revelation vision, these seven final ‘plagues’ from the foaming cup of effects, and side effects, of mankind’s own doings. Apocalypse as man done, we have man’s number. We are carbon based which has six protons, six neutrons and six electrons.)

     2 So the first angel went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a wound, evil [kakós - an adjective, and the root of kakía - inner malice – properly, inwardly foul, rotten, poisoned] and grievous came upon the people who bore the mark of the beast and were worshiping its image. 3 The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea (Mediterranean?) and it became like the blood of a corpse, and every living thing died that was in the sea. (All seas.. would be massive! Which it will be, but that massive? “Seven thunders” all together, Is.24:20.) 4 The third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers [potamos - a river] and upon the springs (of earth) and they became blood (contaminated). 5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, “You are just, O Holy One, who is and who was, for these things you have judged. 6 For THEY have poured out the blood of saints and prophets, and to them you have given [didómi - to give, lit or fig) blood to drink and worthy they are. (Cause and effect.)

     7 And I heard the altar saying, “Yes, Lord God the Almighty true and just are your judgments!” [Ro.3:4 - “That You (God) may be justified in your words and prevail when You (God) are judged”.]

1 - Then I (John) saw another sign [sémeion - sign, miracle, indication, mark, token] (letting things run their course is a definite signifier, signpost, summary of unbreakable truth, nicknamed rod/measure of iron, sign/signature) in heaven, great and wonderful (truth that life hAs to be “perfect” because God iS life, and “is perfect” Mt.5:58; sign/signature) seven angels with seven plagues [plégé - blow, stripe, wound, affliction, plague] which are the last (effects, pinpointing cause) for with them the wrath of God is finished. [Ps.90:3, 5-7 (the ‘wrath’) — “You return man to dust and say, ‘Return, O children of man!’ ..5 You sweep them away as with a flood, they are like a dream, like grass that springs up in the morning, 6 in the morning it flourishes and is renewed, in the evening it fades and withers. 7 For we are brought to an end by your anger. By your wrath (cause & effect?) we are dismayed.” (Dust to dust, Ro.6:23 - the wages/result of “hamartia” - “missing the mark”.)]

     2 And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass as mingled with fire (life as we presently know it..? imperfect, an abyss of potential) and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. 3 And they sing the song of Moses, servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and wonderful are your works [érgon - from ergō - to work, accomplish] O LORD God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations! 4 Who will not fear/revere, O LORD, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.” [Ro.3:4 “..as it has been written about God, "That You (God) may be justified in YOUR words, and will prevail in Your being judged."]

     5 After this I looked, and the sanctuary of the tabernacle/tent of witness/testimony in the heavens was opened (this always makes me think of the split atom). 6 And out of the sanctuary came the seven angels with the seven (final) plagues, clothed in pure, bright linen, with golden sashes around their chests. 7 And one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath (final results of “seven thunders”?) of God who lives forever and ever, 8 and the sanctuary was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the sanctuary until the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed. [[Teleó - to bring to an end, complete, fulfill; from télos - consummation, completion, this root (tel-) means "reaching the end (aim)." It is well-illustrated with the old pirate's telescope, unfolding (extending out) one stage at a time to function at full-strength/ultimately full scope]] - (Examples, 70 CE, smaller scope, history’s consummation, full scope. Jesus’ first so brief advent, smaller scope, and long, second advent, full scope).

14 - Then I (John) looked, and I saw a - white - cloud, and sitting on the cloud was one like the Son of man with a crown of gold on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, and the harvest is ripe.” 16 So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and it was reaped.

     17 Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. 18 Then I saw another angel who came out from the altar, an angel who has authority over fire. And he cried out with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, telling him “Put in your sickle! And gather the clusters from the vine of the earth, for its grapes are ripe.” 19 So the angel swung his sickle across the earth and gathered the grape harvest of earth and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. (Amageddon. Surely? Fiery, Is.24:20, the last of “seven thunders”?) 20 And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood” (oil?) flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse's bridle, for 1,600 stadia. 

     [Note also a/the grape harvest that is “after the thousand years” and after GWT judgment ‘day’. This is revealed in 1Cor.15:22-24,28 wiTh Mt.13:33, key word 3, three harvests listed (it’s very obvious - barley, wheat and grape harvests) - the verses:

     Matthew 13:33 - “The kingdom is like a woman working leaven into three batches of meal/three loaves, until the whole is leavened.”

 — 1 Corinthians 15:22-28 - “As in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But each in their own order: (1)Christ the firstfruits (barley) then (2)at his coming (the wheat) those who belong to Christ. 24 Then comes the end (overflowing grape harvest) (3)when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying - every rule, and every authority, and power. 25 For Christ must reign until he has put all enemies under him. [“Whoever is friends with the world is an enemy of God” (at enmity with) James 4:4.] 26 The last enemy to be abolished [katargeó - to render inoperative, abolish] is death. 27 For “God has put all [pas - every, the whole, all] under him.” But when it says, “all are put under him,” it is plain that he is excepted who put (“the”) all under him. 28 And then when all are (truly, manifestly and literally/spiritually) under him, then the Son will openly submit himself to he who put all under him [hypotássō - from hypó - under, and tássō - arranged] that God may be all in all.  [All the all’s are from the Greek word pas - all, all were translated “all things” except - so that God will be all in all, as it wouldn’t sound right to say “that God may be all things in all things”.]

     —> ONE - Christ/Messiah, “forever preeminent”, TWO - the “wheat at his return” and THREE - the grape harvest at “the end when Christ hands all, with aLL things subdued, to the Father” that “God may be all in all” Vs.24-28.] (Creation and humanity sealed and saturated with God’s Spirit/Presence age to age to age. God “is Perfect” - the best ‘end’ result is the only one possible. Had there been no option to stray in Eden, creation would have to be an ant farm. And if things are not allowed to run their course, what exactly would be the point? Mt.13:30 is, surely? Rev.16:13-16.)

8 - Then I (John) saw a second angel following the first across the sky, crying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She who has given all nations to drink the wine of her passionate immorality and corruption.”

     9 And another angel, a third, followed, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on their forehead or hand, 10 they also will drink the cup of the wine of God's wrath (consequences, Obadiah 1:15, Ps.90:3,5-7) poured undiluted. (Things are being allowed to run their full course. Otherwise why bother?) And they will be tormented with fire and sulfur (EARTHLY event) before the holy angels and the Lamb. (“All the world is a stage” Shakespeare.) 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever. (There’s a “palin/again-genesis”, so that must be the smoke of the torment/destruction “rising age to age” in the memories and record of all things.) And they have no rest, day or night, those worshipping the beast (many headed geopolitical) and its image. And who receive the mark [charagma - a stamp, impress, originally an impress on a coin or a seal, later an identification marker, owner's unique brand-mark) of its name.”

    12 Here is a call for the endurance (Dn.12:11-12 w/ Lk.19:41,44 and 1Cor.3:16, escalating? Rev.2:10) of his people, all those who keep the instructions of God and their faith in Jesus. 13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!” (Straightaway.) (“Seven thunders” as Is.24:20?)

1 - Then I looked - and behold - on Mount Zion stood the Lamb. And with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. (It’s time - Mt.23:39, Ro.11:15, Rev.7:9,4.) (But Mt.Zion is the spiritual/heavenly, Mt.of Olives is the literal/earthly.) 2 And I heard a voice from heaven like the sound of rushing waters and of loud thunder. And like the sound of harpists playing on their harps. 3 And they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 having been redeemed from the earth. 4 These who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. (Truth virgins not corrupted by ancient goddess based beliefs?) Who follow the Lamb wherever he goes, having been redeemed out from men as firstfruits for God and the Lamb, 5 and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless.

     6 Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead. He had the glad tidings to proclaim to those who dwell upon earth, to every nation, tribe, language and people. 7 And he said with a loud voice, “Fear/revere God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment (of the world, this wrong way that can never work) has come, and worship he, who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

14 - And by the signs [sémeion - a sign, miracle, indication, mark, token (of the future? see 13:13)] this (smaller) beast (an office, not yet indicating an individual) is allowed to work in sight of the beast (in sight of the larger, many headed geopolitical beast/entity/institution) it deceives those who dwell upon earth, telling them to make an image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword (had expired) and yet (now) lived again. 15 And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain (reverse order). 16 Also it causes all, small and great, rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, 17 so no one may buy or sell unless they have the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. 18 This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of man (the word “a” was inserted at translation) and the number is 666. (..? Man is carbon based, and carbon has six protons, six neutrons, and six electrons. Strongly? suggesting apocalypse is all done by man. For we have ‘his’ number - an idiom - “I’ve got your number” means understanding someone so well you can predict their actions, or know someone’s true nature and intentions.)

9 - If anyone has an ear, let them hear. 10 If anyone into (or taking?) captivity, to captivity they go. if anyone with the sword slays (usually translated, is slain [apokteinó or apoktennó: to kill, slay]) with the sword must they be slain. (Or slay?) Here is a call for - the endurance and faith - of the saints/believers.

     11 Then I (John) saw another beast rising out of the earth. (A difference, the huge beast, vs.1, rose up out of the sea {of humanity}. These two are integral to late days prophecy {additionally} evidenced by the angel in chapter ten - who had a ‘little scroll’ in his hands, and was standing with one foot on land and one foot on the sea.) (This littler beast, surely is essentially a modern, larger scope fulfillment of the “little horn” of Daniel’s prophecy which came out of a cluster of horns, and as it grew, it uprooted three of the other horns around it, Dn.7:8 and 8:9, Rev.12:14?) This one has two horns like a lamb but it (ends up?) speaking like a dragon. 12 It (also ends up) exercising all the authority of the first beast - in its presence (the little beast will unlawfully step into the prime horn/seat of the huge many headed geopolitical beast/entity/institution? A bit after the half point of a lauded treaty/league established after a crises which just happens to consolidate powers. But which treaty, alas, will only last seven years, and will be broken, in the middle, against Israel by “taking away or removing” their “perpetual sacrifices” ..of prayers, etc, oR place of, Dn.12:11-12 w/Lk.19:41,44 and 1Cor.3:16.)

     This (smaller, second) beast makes the earth and its inhabitants worship (be in allegiance to?) the first (larger) beast, whose mortal wound was healed. (The last days version/fulfillment, like yesteryear’s, was, was not, then was again.) 13 It (a two horned office) performs great signs, even making fire come down from heaven/sky, to earth in the sight of, and presence of mankind. (This fiery event pinpoints/ed an office, not yet an individual.)

When we left off last week, the dragon was raging, now to be more attentively upon “the faith’s other children” - which, surely(?) brings us to Revelation 16’s gathering to Armageddon battle (Mt.13:30). End of chapter 12. End of one of three tellings of the vision. Chapter twelve being the middle telling. “..And the dragon stood on the sand of the sea shore”.. How he turns rage on Israel and takes the world to Armageddon brings us to chapter 13.

     13:1 - And I saw a (many headed geopolitical) beast (entity, institution) rising up, out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on the horns of it, and upon the heads of it, names of blasphemy [blasphémia - slander]. 2 And the beast that I [John] saw was like a leopard, but with feet like a bear's, and its mouth, like a lion's mouth. (All predators.) And the dragon gave to it, his power and his throne and gave it great authority. 3 One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound was healed. (And it comes about that) the whole world is filled with wonder [thaumazó - marvel, wonder, admiration] and will follow after the beast. 4 And (so) they revered the dragon, who had given the authority to the beast, and they revered the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? And who can make war against it?” (“And they shall say ‘Peace! Peace!’” But *alas! Dan.12:11 and 2:43; Dan.12:11-12 w/ Lk.19:41-44 and 1Cor.3:16.)

        5 And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and slanderous/blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months. (This is the second 42 months/3.5 years of the lauded peace [covenant, treaty, league] that *alas, will only last seven years, and will be broken in the middle against Israel - Rev.12:17.) 6 It opened its mouth to utter slanders against God, blaspheming his name and his tabernacle, and those tabernacling in heaven. [Angels.] 7 Also it was allowed to make war upon the saints [believers/followers] and to conquer them. And authority was given to it over every tribe, people, language and nation. 8 And all who dwell upon earth will revere it, everyone whose name has not been written in the book of life of the lamb who was slain from the founding [katabolé - laying down] of the world [kosmos - order, the world, a properly ordered system, universe, creation]. (Why was that the remedy? The slain lamb, remedy of what God knew was bound to occur.. his having allowed that man and angel be thinking, reasoning beings, which includes having some power of choice. God surely(!?) does not need to be appeased, though think of the guiltiest of guilty consciences.. At the same time, yes Jesus paid - in biblical manner of speaking - our debt to universal society, and the remedy must be strong enough to convince all, from the most ‘innocent’ among us, to the most heartless and cruel. The penalty/result of straying from God who is Life, is death, this entropy and passing away. But “death could not hold him” for he is and was Perfect, the only straight out from God one. Entering death he had the key to unlock death and so set the captives (all of us) free. Important note - The initiaL conditions of some upon GWT judgment ‘day’ is portrayed in the rich man and Lazarus parable, and in the outside of the vision narrative of Rev.22.)

[After the woman, the faith, fled (Jerusalem in 70CE) and time had passed.. and after “war in heaven”] 13 - the dragon, when he saw that he was now limited to Earth, pursued (persecuted, inquisitioned) the woman, the faith, who had given birth to the manchild (Son of man/Christ). 14 But the woman, the faith was given the two wings of an eagle, that she might fly (sail) to the wilderness to a place of her to be nourished and grow [in a widest sense] for a time, times and half (a division of) time, safe from the face [prosópon - presence, face, advantage] of the serpent [of “the dragon, ancient serpent, called the devil and Satan ..deceiver of the whole world” vs.9].

     15 Then (after the 1, 2 and ½ divisions of time) the serpent spewed water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, the faith. In order to wash her away with a flood, from off the face of the Earth.

     16 But (in the vision John was seeing) the earth helped the woman. It opens its mouth and swallows the flood, the dragon had poured from his mouth after her. (A spiritual flood, a strong delusion? as to “origins” declaring man most high, “seated in the temple as god”/highest power; and? widespread drought just before Armageddon/next verse). 17 And the dragon was furious with the woman, the faith, and went off to make war upon the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God. And (by then, Mt.23:39) hold to the testimony of Jesus.

     And the dragon stood on the sand of the sea.

Review: Chapter twelve is the second telling of the revelation vision. It is between the other two tellings - 6:1-2 to 11:19, but a trick with the seals keeps the vision veiled. They, the elements of the vision (and age) are described at the beginning of the vision as a swirl of their full and entire effects, first to very last. Especially pronounced in the 6th seal and the following 7:1,3 (9,4) where we presently still are. Jesus as going from ascension to chapter 5.. White horse rider being the “good news to all”. Red horse rider is mankind/empire’s response.. Don’t fear the pale rider, etc, Ps.91. — Third telling is 13:1 - “Then I saw rising out of the sea a great beast/entity/institution with ten horns”/powers/seats.. 13:1 to 19:11.

     Test - 13:13 as 1st seal 6 event, pinpoints an office, not (yet?) an individual. (The 3 mentions of lake of fire are at huge, fiery, earthly events.)

After the manchild(/Son of man) was taken up to God’s throne where he will rule with the unbreakable measuring rod of Truth, and the faith had fled.. (migrated) 7 - War arose in heaven, Michael and his angels warred against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels warred against Michael and his angels. 8 But the dragon hadn’t the strength, and no longer was a place for them found in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent (oR “cherubim” from Ezek.28:12-  “Son of man, raise a lamentation over the king of Tyre.. you were in Eden, the garden of God.. an anointed covering cherub [kerub - an order of angelic beings, cherub, cheribim]. I appointed you on the holy mountain.. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness [evel or avel or avlah or olah - unrighteousness, injustice] was found in you..”

     (Like David is used as a representation of Christ in prophecy, so too are despotic kings used as a representation of Satan the adversary.)

1 - A great sign appeared in heaven! A woman who was clothed with the sun and the moon was under her feet. Upon her head was a crown of twelve stars. {She was a virgin! Code for innocent and of purity. God’s spiritual ideal and blueprint. But if there had been no option to stray in Eden, no power of choice in creation, creation would be an ant farm. So, first, this unavoidable, yet all important contrast is being gone through by “all in heaven and earth” (the angels and humanity).}

     2 She was with child and was crying out because of her birth pains and the torment of giving birth. 3 And then another sign appeared in heaven - behold! A great red dragon. This dragon had seven heads and ten horns. And on the heads were seven royal crowns. [“The ‘god’ of this world” 2Cor.4:4 (who ends up having/being seven “changing” versions of false “light”/entities/‘world’ empires, throughout Earth’s ages.] 4 His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. {Obviously, this is one third of the angels, as surely(?) some angels followed the cherubim which plotted his revolt using Eden - “you were a covering angel [kerub - probably an order of angelic beings, cherub, cherubim — “Yahweh Sabaoth throned on the cherubim” 1Sam.4:4, referring to the Ark of the Covenant. A symbol. Cherubim - a high angel devised in his heart to “ascend above God”. And from being a high angelic being, became a dragon.}

     And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth [to the Son of man, Messiah Jesus] so that when she bore her child he might devour [kill] it. 5 She gave birth to a manchild, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron (with Truth, a measuring rod that cannot be broken).    🍃It’s $ity Babble-on that sits on all 7 continents/hills which the kings of earth/politicians are in bed with, yet already they’re gearing up to consume away and raze her in the last hour - 17:12,16. Socialism will finally do away with free enterprize/captalism (gone extreme).

   🍃13:13 pinpoints(ed) an oFFice not yet a person - who will lawlessly step into the main seat of todaY’s many headed geopolitical beast/entity/institution, after a crises that consolidates its power. An oFFice which is noT the “false prophet” who enabled it, and who’s “strong delusion” hAs “seated man/anthropos in the temple as god”/highest power causing the west once called Christendom to “fall away”. [2Thessalonians 1:8,7 - “…when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels 8 in a fire of flame, inflicting [didómi - to give - in various senses lit. or fig. includes allowing, yielding, granting, pouring, permitting] vengeance [ekdikésis - vengeance, vindication, defense, avenging, pay back, “full” and “complete” punishment] on those who do not know God and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. (The culmination of history. Conclusion and end of the story, Mt.13:30 - “Let both” - the wheat and the tares, psuedo wheat, which we all were - “grow together until the harvest, and at the harvest I will tell the reapers, ‘Gather the weeds first, and bind them in - bundles - to be burned, and then gather the wheat into my barn.” And Revelation 16:14,16 - “..demons performing signs ..to the kings of earth gathering them for battle.. and assembled them at Armageddon” (Gehenna Valley).

And the time [kairos - time, season] came for the dead to be judged, and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints, and those who fear your name, both small and great, and to destroy [diaphtheiró - from dia - intensive, through and through, and diaphthorá - thorough decay] those destroying earth.” (Imo, spiritually destroying.) 19 Then God's temple in heaven was opened (I always think split, the word anoigó, does include broken, open). And the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and great hail.

      (Isaiah 24:20) - the higher and faster moisture rises, the larger and greater the hail. And surely(?) it is thermonuclear lightning.. rumbling and thunder.. “seven thunders”? Counting the first occurrence which was Rev. 13:13 in the third telling of the vision - but the occurrence pinpointed an office, not yet an individual. Which was also the first seal six occurrence, but it’s veiled by the seals being described at the beginning of the vision, as their full and entire effects, first to very last. This also veils much of the entire vision. Kudos to any understanding any of us has had! — Next week we begin the second telling of the vision, which is Revelation chapter 12. All three end, and rejoin, at the 7th trumpet’s sounding.. “The kingdom of the world is become the kingdom of our LORD and of his Christ.”

1 - Then I (disciple/apostle John) was given a measuring rod like a staff (clue about the “rod of iron” Jesus will rule the nations with after shattering them with it). And I was told, “Rise and measure the temple of God and the altar and those who worship there, 2 but don’t measure the court outside the temple. Leave that out, for it is given over to the nations, and they will trample the holy city for forty-two months”. (Cross reference? - 1Cor.6:19 - “do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit”/Presence of God.. I.e. waiting for a ‘third temple’ in prophecy, could be an error?)

     3 “And I will grant authority to my two witnesses (Rev.7:9,4?) and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.” (Poverty, mourning, and has to be during the second half of the lauded treaty that will last only seven years and be broken in the middle against Israel, Dn.12:11-12 w/ Lk.19:41,44-which verses prove the “70 weeks” gap between 69 and 70; and w/ 1Cor.3:16. A math problem revealing what?) 4 These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. 5 And if anyone would harm them, fire pours from their mouth and utterly ruins their foes. If anyone wants and is willing to harm them, thus it is [dei - necessary, inevitable] they will be killed. 6 They have the power to shut the sky, that no rain may rain during the days of the prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they wish. 7 And when is completed the testimony of them, the beast rising from the bottomless pit (from the abyss of potential that imperfect/straying is) will make war upon them and will conquer them and will kill them, 8 and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that symbolically is called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified. 8 - Then the voice that I [John] had heard from heaven spoke to me again, “Go, and take the open scroll from the hand of the angel who is standing upon sea and land.”

     9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. And he said, “Take and eat it.” [Katesthíō - from katá - down, and esthíō - eat all the way down] (eat all your food.. the translators favored devour, go figure..) “It will turn your stomach sour (it’s a bitter cup/drink) but ‘in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.’” (Prophecy - and the little book of the revelation vision is an intriguing and fascinating study! Riddles needing keys. But, nevertheless, it’s a bitter pill. Yes? The little scroll, separated like this, shows its importance. The key being, an overall key to the littler keys, lol, is “the end” puts it all together. The consummation, the full and mature fruit, consequences, results, tells the whole story. Straying cannot work. God iS life, and he “is perfect”. Self first, dog eat dog cannot work. ‘Parable’ of the decomposing ‘apple’ and its “worm that doesn’t quit”. The decomposing, fading away doesn’t stop ..imperfection is the worm, because God iS life. But, no option to stray in Eden would mean creation as a mere ant farm.)

     10 So I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and I ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour.  (Fulfilled just as told.) 11 Then I was told, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.” (I.e. the vision/prophecy continues..)

1 - Then I (John) saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. I looked, and I saw he was wrapped in a cloud, and a rainbow was above his head. His face was shining like the sun, and his legs were like mighty pillars of fire. 2 He held a little scroll open in his hand. (Open.. meant to be understood?) And he stood with his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot upon the land. 3 And he called out with a loud voice that was like a lion when he roars. And when he called out, seven thunders sounded. 4 And when the seven thunders had sounded, I was about to write, but I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said! And do not write it down.” (Daniel 12:9, “Sealed until the time of the end” and as to what the seven thunders said, or are, how couLd they be understood until about the time of the end? Aka, modern capabilities.)  5 And then the angel standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven 6 and he swore by he who lives forever and ever, who created the heavens and all in it, the earth and all in it, and the sea and all that is in it, saying - “There will be no more delay! 7 But in the days of the trumpet call sounded by the seventh angel, the mystery of God will be fulfilled, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.” (We are currently at 7:1,3 where we’ve been for some decades now.) (Take the vision out of the silly box titled “7yrs only”. It’s a treaty that alas will last only seven years.. The math problem that reveals everything is Daniel 12:11-12, w/ Lk.19:41,44 and 1Cor.3:16.) I post my own studies for those who want to know. But most importantly, God is Love and 10000% trustworthy. And — “Love never fails” 1Cor.13:8.

     FROM a commentary, slightly edited for modern reading - Barnes at biblehub dot com, concerning “fulfilled at the 7th trumpet’s sounding” — is “the setting up of his kingdom, which had been progressively revealed by the prophets. That purpose would be finished, or consummated, in the time when the seventh angel should begin to sound. Then all the mystery would be revealed; the plan would be unfolded; the divine purpose, so long concealed, would be manifested, and the kingdom of the Messiah and of the saints would be set up upon the earth. Under that period” (NOTE, mine: the period being “the” millennium, aNd, the following GWT judgment ‘day’ - they being the Day of the LORD, the long second advent of king of the earth Jesus, which is bookmarked by two huge fiery events, 2Pet.3:10/2Thes.1:7-8 and 2Pet.3:12-13. The two fiery events being the armageddon battle, Is.24:20, and the “fiery” “palingenesis” or that is, the again-genesis of Rev.21:1-5. It’s during the whole period in between that) “the affairs of the world will be ultimately wound up, and the whole work of redemption completed.” (Rev.20-but described like describing the crests of waves without describing the in between.)

13 - When the sixth angel blew his trumpet, I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar before God, 14 and it said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels that are bound at the great river Euphrates.” 15 So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour, day, month, and year, were released to kill a third of mankind.16 The number of mounted troops - twice ten thousand times ten thousand is the number I heard. 17 And this is how the horses appeared and those who rode them - they wore breastplates the color of fire (red, red-orange) hyacinth (deep blue), and brimstone/sulfur (yellow) and the heads of the horses were like lions' heads (big) and fire, smoke, and sulfur came out of their mouths. 18 By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire (red), smoke (deep blue?) and brimstone (yellow) coming out of their mouths. (Rev.8:13 had said, “Woe! Woe!      1 - The fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fall from heaven to earth, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit. (The fall is an abyss of potential.) 2 And when he opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, from it rose smoke like the smoke of a great fiery furnace, and the sun, and the air, was darkened from the smoke.

     3 And out from the smoke came (loud) locusts. And they had power like the power of scorpions (able to sting). 4 They were told (the command was) not to harm the grass of the earth or any green plant or any tree, but only those people who do noT have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 They were allowed to torment and buffet them for five months, but not to kill them, and the torment was like the sting of a scorpion. 6 And in those days people will seek death and not be able to find it. They will want to die, but death will flee from them. (Strange goings on.)

     7 The appearance  (of something modern described by John around 95 CE) of the locusts were like horses prepared for battle. On their heads was something that looked like shimmering crowns (totally paraphrased by me, verse says “something like gold crowns”). Their faces were like human faces, 8 their hair like a woman's hair, and their teeth like lions' teeth. 9 They had breastplates like iron, and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many chariots with horses rushing into battle. 10 They have tails that sting, and their power to hurt people for five months is in the tails. 11 They have as king over them the (fallen) angel of the abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek is Apollyon. (Was a high angel!)

     12 The first woe has passed (vs.5 says it lasts five months. Martial law?) Behold, two woes are still to come.

Review and thots (my own study🤓) - vs.5,6 just previous - Then the angel took the censer and filled it with fire (and prayers of the ‘saints’) from the altar and threw it upon the earth, and there were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake. ->The interrupting of 7:1,3, the holding back of the winds (of seal 6? 6:12-17). This interruption followed by the consolidating of powers - powers manifested this time as a many headed geopolitical beast/entity/institution, stepped into, lawlessly, by one from the office pinpointed by the 13:13 event. — The vision is portrayed 3 different times in Rev, so 13:13 can easily be the first seal 6 event! I think our heavenly Father loves a good riddle! And after this interruption of holding back the winds of seal 6 after its first occurrence, comes the consolidating of powers (iron-bronze/roman-graeco/west and clay/not west/the fallen away west) along with the much lauded treaty/league of Daniel 9:27  - berith - covenant, league, treaty. (Proof of “the gap” in the “70 weeks prophecy - Lk.19:41,44). But the praised treaty alas only lasts 7 years and is broken in the middle against Israel and 1,290 days later is “set up” the final abomination that desolates (this time upon the human temple, the person/people, meant for God’s Spirit/Presence (Life!) - Dn.12:11-12 with Lk.19:41,44 and 1Cor.3:16.

     6 And now the seven angels who have the seven trumpets prepare to blow them.

7 - The first angel blew his trumpet, and there came hail and fire, mixed with blood, and it was thrown upon the earth, and a third of earth was burned up, and a third of trees, and (where it was?) all the green grass was burned up. (#3 ‘thunder’? Number one being 6:12-17 - but the seal is all its occurrences blended, the whole element of the age (seal) described first to last. And #2 thunder? is 8:5)

     8 The second angel blew his trumpet, and something that looked like a great mountain on fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became as blood. 9 A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships (and trade?) were destroyed. (#4? thunder?/seal 6 event)

     10 The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven, like a torch. And it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. (7:17) 11 The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many people died from the water, because it had been made bitter. (#5?)

     12 The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of the sun was stricken, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light was darkened, and a third of the day did not give its light, and so it was also for a third of the night. (#6?)

     A key? The triple six riddle in last days prophecy - six is the number of man, who is carbon based. Carbon having six protons makes its atomic number to be six. Besides 6 protons, it also has six neutrons and six electrons. A triple six. This suggests to me that all of apocalypse is mankind’s doings.

     God can claim all judgments as his (the ‘thunderings of his voice’) because it is after all, he, who created a cause and effect universe and reality. ..Otherwise creation as an ant farm?? We can trust this, God “is Perfect” so the ‘end’ result of all things can only be the best one possible. The greek word translated end means end-aim, “tel” like tel-escope.. prophecy repeats from smaller scope to full scope and end-aim of it.

     We can trust in, and praise our heavenly Father’s end-aim, knowing he is - surely? - 100% unfettered Genius. Supreme. God is supreme and all mighty. ..If there’d been no option to stray in Eden? NO power of choice in creation? Ant farm!

     If things - choices other than his - are not allowed to run their course, what exactly would be the whole point? Notice how “all in heaven and earth” are taking this unavoidable journey/lesson all together at once. And how life as we presently know it - the straying itself - turns out to be the very crucible of correction! THE one that works and will persuade all that straying from God who is Life, and “is perfect” can neveR work - lo? Imperfect being an ABYSS of potential…

In chapter six we saw six of seven seals broken from off the scroll of the vision. And as each seal was broken, we saw more of the vision as the scroll was unrolled. Now here is a serious topic, which few, I think, are aware of. Though I did read an excellent article a few years back, which I’ll mention a little more in a minute. The seals, I think are veiled by a truly simple technique! Now think of the horses - the notorious “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse”, their rides continue throughout the latter age, the years of our Lord a.d./CE-is that a changing of times? A.D. to C.E.? I’m not saying it hasn’t happened before. And I would imagine the rides of the horses become gallops at the last hours?

     It’s been commonly thought the seals occur during the last seven years of man’s rule (and of imperfection’s rule). Perhaps the galloping occurs then.. well in the last 3.5 years somewhat(?) slowly escalating that is. (Considering as always, Dn.12:11-12 with Lk.19:41,44 and 1Cor.3:16. Now I ask you, in all seriousness, isn’t the answer to that math problem 45? With perhaps the last “ten days” - Rev.2:10 - escalating into the most critical?) The “seven years” - two 3.5 periods - is a treaty. And a league. Or so says the original Hebrew word. A famous, much lauded treaty (Dn.12:11). But alas it will only last seven years, and be broken in the middle. But we were talking about the seals. How they are veiled. Have you noticed it? They are described, at the beginning of the vision, as their full and entire effects - first to very last - from the breaking open to the very last of its gallop. This veils the seals, skews the whole vision, and no wonder everyone thinks they’re crowded into seven years.. The 6th one is something really big. Bigger than the others.

     Hang onto our seats? Literally. The article I mentioned, explained thermonuclear activity in the revelation vision. Rumbling.. thundering.. thermonuclear lightning,.. sky rolls.. hail. The higher and faster moisture rises, the greater the hail. The arc is seen split in heaven.. Stars ‘fall’ like figs blown by a great wind..

     I think it is the mysterious “seven thunders”, and the so called wrath of God (cause and effect) and I think it concludes, at and as, Is.24:20 & Zech.14:4.

     So in last weeks study we just saw that seal six had been opened.. men hid in caves (i.e. built bomb shelters.. There were drills, children told to hide under their desks.😳)

     This Weeks Verses, Rev. 7:1 - After this I [John] saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, they were holding back the four winds of earth, that the wind would not blow on earth or sea or against any tree. 2 Then, I saw another angel having ascended from the rising of the sun, he had the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the earth and sea, 3 saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or trees until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.” (Mind, thoughts, psyche, clarity.) 4 And I heard the count and number of those to seal, 144,000 from every tribe of the sons of Israel, 5 - 8 — 12,000 from each tribe - of Judah, Reuben, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin. 9 And after this I looked and behold! A great crowd which no one was able to number from every nation, and all tribes, and peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb and they were clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out as one, in a roaring voice saying, “Salvation/safety/well-being belongs to our God who sits on the throne! And to the Lamb!” 11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings and they fell before the throne and worshiped. 12 saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory! Wisdom, and thanksgiving! Honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen!”

     13 Then one of the elders said to me, “Who are these, having been clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?” 14 I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said, [the following is word for word translation) “These are the coming/going out of the tribulation the great and washed/to wash (I don’t know how to read the tenses) the robes (of) them and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 “Therefore they are before the very throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple. And - he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. (They are mentioned again, during the fifth trumpet.) 16 They will not hunger nor thirst anymore. The sun will not strike them, nor shall fall upon them the sun nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will shepherd them, and will lead them to springs of living water.

     And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

And Prophecy

   After a large crises, is a treaty/league of the many that lasts only 7yrs, and is broken in the middle against Israel - Dan.12:11, Lk.19:41,44. — Then 1,290 days (about 3.5 yrs plus 30 days) later, the final abomination that desolates, this time upon human temples meant for God’s Spirit/Presence? (1Cor.3:16). Happy the one who waits, and comes to the days 1,335 - Dan.12:12. Which is 45 days later? The last “ten days” escalating to the most critical? Rev.2:10

     Ps.60:4 - “You have given your worshipers a signal that they might flee..”

The world’s, modern day “false prophet” has caused western civilization once called Christendom, to “fall away”. This by its “strong delusion” of “seating man/anthropos in the temple as god”/highest power. This prophet of course also has a prophecy it is putting forth and has many more modern wonders and “miracles to deceive”.

9 - And when he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those having been slain because of the word of God and because of the testimony they had upheld.10 And they were crying in a voice loud (logic - like the blood of Abel, not souls/psyches’ languishing under the altar for centuries) saying, “Until when oh LORD, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge [ekdikeó - vindicate, give justice to] our blood which was shed, from those dwelling upon the earth?” 11 Then each one was given a white robe and told to rest a while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers [adelphoi - from alpha, and delphus - womb (so siblings)] should be complete, of those to be killed as they had been. (Aka - Martyrdom continues throughout the age.)

     12 When he opened the sixth seal - (this seal, especially is obscured - God hiding things in pLain sight - by describing the seal at the beginning of the vision, as a blend of its full and entire effects, from first occurrence to very last) I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake. (And at the first event of it, a psyche earthquake). The sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood (red, reflecting red?). 13 And the stars of the sky fell to earth - like figs blown in a strong wind (how it appears upon earth when the earth is shaking, Is.24:20). 14 The sky parted like a scroll being rolled up. And every mountain, and every island, from its place was moved. 15 Then the kings of earth, the great ones, the generals and the rich and powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in caves (bunkers, and bomb shelters) and among the rocks of the mountains, 16 and they say to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one seated on the throne, and from the wrath [orgē - from the verb oragō - to teem, swell, and thus implies not a sudden outburst, but rather a controlled, passionate feeling, a settled indignation] of the Lamb, 17 for the great day of their wrath has come (imo, consequences/results, claimed by God because, after all(!) it was he who created a cause and effect universe). And who can stand?” (Revelation, aka, the culmination, is the two ripe fruits - the wheat, and the tares - the submitted and the not yet submitted, Rev.16:13-16 w/ Mt.13:30.)

And a pair of scales in the hand of its rider. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying, “A measure [greek word, a little less than two cups] of wheat for a denarius, and three measures of barley for a denarius, and do not harm the oil and wine!” (Dark ways, mourning, oppression, progresses to rationing?      7 And when he broke open the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come!” 8 And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And the name of the one sitting on him was death, and the grave followed after him. (Mass graves.) And these two were given authority over one fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, famine and pestilence and by the beasts (wild governments?) of earth. 1 - I (John) was watching as the Lamb (who seemed to have been slain) opened one of the seven seals on the scroll (which is the vision). Then I heard one of the four living creatures say with a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2 And behold, a white horse! And it came forth conquering and to conquer. Its rider had a bow, and a crown was given to him.  (I think Jesus went from ascension to Revelation chapter five. And opening the seal, out rode forth into the new age - into the years of our Lord A.D. - the gospel, for a time openly victorious over powers and principalities ..and in response) 3 When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4 And out came another horse, bright red. Its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth (war, Ps.2) so that people should slay one another, and it was given a great sword. (The seals are described, at the beginning of the vision, as their full and entire effects, first to last. 8 - And the four living creatures, each of them having six wings, are full of eyes, all around and within. And day and night they never cease saying “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” 9 And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to he who is seated on the throne, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him and worship he who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 “Worthy are you, our LORD and God, to receive glory, honor and power, for you created all things. And by your will they exist and are created.” (In this production, this vision about to be portrayed, at each new progression, there is the reminder that [1] all is well, God is sovereign, and [2] no matter how grievous upon Earth, God is still to be praised, for this unfortunate, “shadow of death” - fading away life as we presently know it - this unavoidable yet all important contrast, must run its full course. God had two options for creation? One option being a total ant farm? But instead he opted for ToTaL ‘herd’ immunity? He is - of course - 100% unfettered Genius.) (And as Life, itself, he suffers, lives through, and experiences all things which ever occur. And he created genuinely able to think and reason beings anyway! ..Both “angelos” and “antropos” and the rebel anthropos happen to serve as an accelerant. “..Your father in heaven is perfect” Mt.5:48 — The end result of all this can only be the very best one possible. — Before knowing, acknowledging this.. we are not casting our crown before him..? He is grace.. His love and - faithfulness - is steadfast, immoveable. Beginning this weekly reading, I have not really understood this section, so I prayed for his Quiet voice to tell me what it means, for he is ever speaking to us all.)

Haggai Chapter Two

 (Now) Weekly From the Prophets

1 - In the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month (2nd quarter moon, seventh and last day of the Feast of Tabernacles) the word of the Lord came to Haggai the prophet: 2 “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, and say, 3 ‘Who is left among you who saw this house as it was in its former glory? How do you see it now? 4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, declares the Lord. Be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. And be strong, all you people of the land, declares the Lord. Build, for I am with you, declares the Lord of hosts, 5 according to the covenant I made with you when I led you out of Egypt. My Spirit remains in your midst. Fear not.

     6 For thus says the Lord of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. (A little while to Him?) 7 And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts. 8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the Lord of hosts. 9 The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of hosts.’” (They were discouraged this new temple would be less magnificent than the first? But God is showing them a glimmer of the final temple.. the full destiny of a temple in Jerusalem?)

     10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, 11 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: Ask the priests about the law: 12 ‘If someone carries holy meat in the fold of his garment and touches with his fold bread or stew or wine or oil or any kind of food, does it become holy?’” The priests answered and said, “No.” 13 Then Haggai said, “If someone who is unclean by contact with a dead body touches any of these, does it become unclean?” The priests answered and said, “It does become unclean.” 14 Then Haggai answered and said, “So is it with this people, and with this nation before me, declares the Lord, and so with every work of their hands. And what they offer there is unclean. 15 Now then, consider from this day onward. Before stone was placed upon stone in the temple of the Lord, 16 how did you fare? When one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten. When one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were but twenty. 17 Struck were all the products of your toil with blight and mildew and hail, yet you did not turn to me, declares the Lord.18 Consider from this day onward, from this twenty-fourth day of this ninth month.       20 The word of the Lord came a second time to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, 21 “Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth, 22 and overthrow the throne of kingdoms. I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations, and overthrow the chariots and their riders. And the horses and their riders shall go down, every one by the sword of his brother. 23 On that day, declares the Lord of hosts, I will take you, O Zerubbabel [his name means “begotten in Babylon” he led the people home, so used as a type of Christ, like some kings are used as types of the adversary called Satan, and like David of Christ] my servant, the son of Shealtiel [this name means “I have asked of God” - ask, seek, knock] declares the Lord, and make you like a signet ring [chotham - a seal] for I have chosen you, declares the LORD of hosts.” (Jesus, our seal?)

I know that you have but little power [dýnamis - power, might, strength, ability] and yet you have kept my word and you have not denied my name. 9 Look, I will make those of the assembly of Satan who declare themselves as true but are not, but lie, behold, I will make them come and bow down before you, and they will learn that I have loved you. 10 Because you have kept my word about patient endurance - I will keep [téreó - watch over, guard] you from the hour of trial/testing that is coming upon the whole world - to try those who dwell upon earth. 11 I come quickly [tachu - quickly, speedily]. Hold fast what you have. So no one may seize your crown. (“Of Life” not metal!) 12 The one who conquers, I will make to be a pillar in the temple of my God. And they shall not go out (of the full, satisfied blessed state) any more. Haggai Chapter One

 (Now) Weekly From the Prophets

The Book of the Prophet Haggai - is two chapters, and is third from the last book of the Old/Ancient Testament.

     Background (we last studied Daniel) — 586bc Nebuchadnezzar sacked Jerusalem, carried many off to Babylon.. Babylon later falls to Persia.

    Belshazzar, Nebuchadnezzar’s son succeeded him. He was the last Babylonian king, and was the “writing on the wall” king. He was followed by Darius the Mede (of Media-Persia) ..He was otherwise known as Nabonidus? He “received the kingdom” (under?) Cyrus the Great of Persia (remember how Persia “rose higher”?) Darius the Mede ruled only two years - Darius and Cyrus ruled concurrently, and Darius was likely appointed viceroy over Babylon by his nephew, King Cyrus who ruled from 550bc to 538bc. Darius (the Mede) promoted Daniel (the prophet) to a high position and then was tricked into casting him into the lions’ den. When he saw Daniel was unhurt, Darius decreed “people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. For he is the living God who endures forever. His kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end!” And as viceroy he was, and had been, favorable to Israel.

     Cyrus had decreed all Israel in all his kingdom could, and should go home, and some/many did, led by Zerubbabel (who was a descendent of King David) and they began to “rebuild the TEMPLE” (and, side note: at the time of Cyrus’ proclamation, the massive empire included once again Assyria where the northern tribes had been carried off into captivity). [This proclamation is not the one that began the countdown prophesied by Daniel called “70 weeks”.]

The name Haggai means "my feast" perhaps meaning in anticipation of the joyous return from exile. He was likely one of the Jewish exiles (of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi) who returned to the land of Israel under Zerubbabel, civil head of Isreal during the return, with Joshua the high priest. It was 536 BCE, when Cyrus (as prophecied in Isa 44:28 and 45:1) granted Israel their freedom, and supplied them with what they needed for restoring the temple (2Ch 36:23; Ezr 1:1; 2:2). The work of rebuilding went on under Cyrus and his successor Cambyses (called Ahasuerus in Ezr 4:6).

     Haggai Chapter One

1:1 - In the second year of King Darius — this is Darius the Great, not Darius the Mede who co-ruled for two years. Some time has passed, this Darius (of Persia) is listed as third after Cyrus. — In the second year of Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month [on the new moon, always a festival with a community “with God” meal] the word (message) of the Lord/Yhvh came to Haggai the prophet, to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua, the high priest, son of Jehozadak: 2 “Thus says Yhvh of hosts: It’s said by the people, the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord.” 3 And continued the word to Haggai, 4 “Is it a time for you to dwell in your nicely built houses, while mine lies in ruins? 5 Now, therefore, says Yhvh of hosts - Consider your ways. 6 You have sown much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but you are not warm, and the workers wages go as into a bag with holes.”

     (In other words, oh nation, where are you going wrong?)

     7 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways. 8 Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may be remembered, says the Lord. 9 You looked for much, but behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, it blew away. Why? It is because of my house. It lies in ruins, and all are busy with only their own house. 10 Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce. 11 Summoned is a drought on the land and hills, and on the grain, the new wine, upon the oil, and what the earth brings forth, upon man and upon beast, and upon all your labors.” (God iS life, and every blessing.)

     12 Then Zerubbabel and Joshua the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Yhvh their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent. And the people remembered and revered Yhvh. 13 Then Haggai, messenger of the Lord, spoke to the people with the Lord's message, “I am with you, says Yhvh.” 14 And he stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the high priest, son of Jehozadak, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people. And they came and began work on the house of Yhvh, their God, 15 on the twenty-fourth day of the month, of the sixth month, in the second year of King Darius called the Great.

1 - And to the angel of the church in Sardis write - These things says the one who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars - “I know your works. You are known for being alive, but you’re dead.” (Outwardly look okay, but..) 2 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to fall off, for I have not found your works to be complete in the sight of my God.” (You are missing the target! Wake up!) 3 “Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent [metanoeó - turn, change after (being with)]. If you don’t wake up, I’ll come like a thief, and, you won’t know at what hour. 4 Yet you have still a few among you, who have not soiled their garments.” (No radiance if not following the way of it!) “And they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.” (The way is the way of grace, God’s energizing and peaceful POWER. Our part is threefold: to believe, present our self to him “as a living sacrifice” and “rest in him”. And this is summed up as “love God”. Genuinely and heartfelt.) 5 “The one who conquers [nikáō - from níkē - victory, properly, conquer, overcome, to carry off the victory, come off victorious, the verb implies a battle] will be clothed [periballó - to throw around, put on, from peri - around, and ballo - to throw, cast, toss, pour, be cloaked] in white [leukos - light, bright, radiant] and I will not erase their name out of the book of life. I will confess their name before my Father and before his angels. [Homologeó - confess, speak the same, agree, publicly declare, a Hebraism, I praise, celebrate, from homou - together, and lego - to voice the same conclusion, speak the same thing, be in full agreement, align with, endorse] [their name - onoma -  a name, authority, cause, character, fame, reputation — “According to Hebrew notions, a name is inseparable from the person to whom it belongs, i.e. it is something of his essence. Therefore, to God, it is especially sacred" - adapted from Souter.] 6 Whoever has an ear, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
